A lot of Lagosians always go on and on about the red flags they cannot ignore in relationships. So thC decides to ask Lagosians the difficult question a lot of them try to avoid when it comes to relationships. What’s a dating red flag you can ignore?
1. Bad Grammar
Chidinma, 27

I would say bad grammar. When my currently boyfriend texted me, I laughed at the text because of how grammatically incorrect it was. “The first text he sent me was ‘I am wanting to knowing you more.’ I almost screenshot it for the group chat. But he was the one who drove 2 hours in traffic to bring me peppersoup and medicines when I had malaria. He still writes ‘I miss you plenty‘ and I’ve stopped correcting him. Two years later, he’s the most emotionally intelligent person I know. Grammar is just spelling. Character is the thing.”
2. Bad Dressing Sense
Tunde, 30

For me, i think bad fashion sense. My girlfriend once wore a green top and orange skirt to meet my parents. My mum stared, I stared. But my mom still enjoyed her company and kept on asking after her. Also, she was the one who stayed up helping me prepare for my interview, and she took my side when my family doubted my business. Now I just pick her outfits for her weekends. She says ‘thank you, stylist‘ and we both laugh.”
3. Mummy’s Boy
Ada, 24,

I mean, I can overlook being a mummy’s boy because i am a daddy’s girl myself. “On one of our dates, he left halfway through dinner because his mum called. I wasn’t upset because if my dad had called, I would have done the same. The only rule was boundaries, and we set them together.”
4. Jealousy
Femi, 26

“My girlfriend once pouted for 20 minutes because a female colleague hugged me at a party. She didn’t shout or check my phone. She said, ‘I know it’s silly, but it made me feel something.’ I said ‘thank you for telling me,’ and that was it. I’d rather have someone who gets a little jealous and talks about it than someone who doesn’t care at all.“
5. Patriarchal Mentality
Zainab, 31

As for me, I don’t care about patriarchal believes and mentality bullshits. What i know is the traditional way my parent trained me, I do not believe in those feminism bullshit. I believe a man shoulder be a provider and I should be there to support. Even though he has a mentality like that, I am not leaving him, that is what I believe in myself “
